Uncertain Times
The Brevard Girls Academy, located in Cocoa Village, was established to offer a holistic and integrated alternative to educational options currently available. Secondary students in Brevard County essentially have two choices – brick and mortar or virtual school.
Attending a public school will be wrought with ever-changing policies (and tensions) regarding COVID-19 safety measures. Attention to academic achievement will be tenable at best. Every day will be filled with worry that someone in the classroom has contracted the virus.
The FLVS or BVS curricula is more demanding than rewarding. Most students lack the discipline or wherewithal to be successful with a virtual platform. It’s a lonely and mundane proposition for most teenagers.
The Brevard Girls Academy is committed to offering a rigorous curriculum – one that will give them the skills to compete with students around the world. However, our goal is to offer lessons that stoke curiosity and enable students to have a greater understanding of the world around them.
The Brevard Girls Academy will offer an online forum for the month of August, or longer if needed. We are enrolling no more than 8 students for the 2020-21 school year. While working from home, students primarily will utilize the Google classroom platform. We will meet each morning via Zoom for lessons. Each student will have the opportunity to come to the school once a week for an individualized session.
When the COVID-19 crisis subsides, classes will move to the classroom. When school is in session, we will employ every measure possible to keep our students safe.
